Flordali / Les Fruits - Salvador Dalí
Salvador Dali is known for his unique use of symbols. In the ‘FruitDali’ series the artist appropriates very traditional nineteenth century botanical graphics, designed as scientific illustrations, and paints over them with his characteristically fantastic embellishments. Dalí plays with the void spaces left by the engraver's needle to conjure faces and sexualized images.
A botanical illustration of French pomologist Pierre-Antoine Poiteau, published in 1846, is here transformed into a surrealistic composition.
